progress

i painted this when i was 15 in winter park, florida.  i was just learning, teaching myself.

but when robert l. anderson  saw it unfinished at our house he invited me to apprentice.

bob lived in an old farmhouse with seven children.  he gave me the attic where i finished "progress".  i sometimes call it "protest".

i was a good babysitter so he kept me around for a couple of years.  then again in woodstock vermont for two years we worked together.
